The ICOM IC-M801E SSB Marine Transceiver 'black box' main body mounts out of the way and out of sight. The ICOM IC-M801E SSB Marine Transceiver also hooks into a GPS, laptop computer, and e-mail modem. The ICOM IC-M801E SSB Marine Transceiver has an accessory socket for an external speaker that is mountable independently of the remote head.

The ICOM IC-M801E SSB Marine Transceiver front panel sports a full keypad, allowing direct frequency entry. The large dot-matrix display offers 10 levels of backlighting and is easily visible. Large dials and buttons allow for easy operation in rough seas. The ICOM IC-M801E SSB Marine Transceiver has a built in DC-DC power converter, which provides 1.6V DC from 12V DC. A stable 125W of output power can provide reliable long distance communication and the large cooling fan ensures stable internal temperature.

The IC-M801E is pre-programmed with 1035 international and domestic channels, plus 160 user-programmable favourite frequency channels that can be programmed into the radio by an authorised Icom dealer.
